Prof. Artibano Micali died on 26 December 2012

The well-known French mathematician Prof. Artibano Micali of Brazilian nationality died on 26 December 2012. From 20-22 of March 2012 the center CAIROS of Toulouse University organizes a special workshop to honor his mathematical legacy. Commemorative speeches will be given by: Pierre Anglès, José Bertin, Philippe Carbonne, Jacques Helmstetter, Arkadiusz Jadczyk , Philippe Revoy, Waldyr A. Rodrigues Jr., Patricia Verdeau. The memorial workshop is organized in cooperation with the Telesio-Galilei Academy of Science in Switzerland. A short French biography of Prof. Artibano Micali can be found here. The mathematics genealogy project gives a list of his 22 students. A Google Scholar search for author “A Micali” returns 82 books and scientific papers. Prof. Artibano Micali is said to have been the first to study neutral meson algebras (either alone, or in relation with nondegenerate meson algebras) [private communication by J. Helmstetter].
